Here they are again...This was the day after we won the semi-final round of the football play-offs. The day after the game we did some shopping, visited family, and had a fun day. Next week-end it's back again to play for the state championship!!! We could not be more excited.

I am a Child of God

So, I was at work - in the middle of passing meds...very busy, and one of my ladies came up to me in her little automatic wheelchair.
Her name is "Barb", and I love her. She is about 70 years old. Now, before she had a stroke, Barb used to be a dealer in Vegas. Many of the big spender, high-rollers who came to Vegas would only deal with her. She really made a name for herself. So, she is not in any way LDS.
Barb knows that I am a Mormon, because I've told her about my children, and that my oldest son is on a mission in Mexico. Anyway, she came up to me, as she often does to talk to me. But this time, she asked me "Will you sing me that song, about Walk With Me?" I really had no clue what she was talking about...and I'll be honest, I love to talk to her, but I was busy drawing up insulin at the time, and didn't want to mess it up, or stop. I told her I didn't think that I knew that song. So, she asked again "That guide me, walk with me song". So, I asked her, "Do you mean I am a Child of God?". And, she said, "Yes, please sing me that song".
So, what could I do. There I stood, in the middle of the hallway, (feeling slightly stupid) singing to her I am a Child of God.
When I was done, I asked her how she knew that song. She told me that soon after she had her stroke, she would go to many long and painful hours of rehab. In her rehab sessions there was a lady there who was LDS. They became good friends. This lady had been beat up by her husband so badly that she had sustained brain damage. During their rehab sessions together, she would sit and massage Barb's arms (because they hurt from the exercises they made her do)...and as she did this, she would sing to her "I am a Child of God".
Barb told me that when she would sing her that song, it would comfort her, and help her to be able to get through all her rehab.
She told me that there was something about that song that always made her feel better.
This really touched me. It is amazing to me how something so simple as a little song can help someone feel the Comforter in their time of need. She didn't need to be a Mormon to feel of her Heavenly Father's love for her.
I have a feeling that I will probably be singing that song again for her someday.

Damean McGinty

This kid is amazing.
He's part of an Irish group called Celtic Thunder.
Makenna and her friends love him.
I could listen to him all day long. Enjoy!

I'm adding this one too...cuz, well, it's just adorable.
No-one could possibly listen to this without smiling!

I'm not sure, but...I think I'm Irish.

FOOTBALL!!

Ready to play the Bulldogs - Mesquite, Nevada. The final score was Tigers - 28, Bulldogs - 7! So far we are 4 and 0 this season. Hopefully we can keep it up! About the underarmour that Ryan is wearing...it only has one sleeve as you can see. It used to be Colten's. The other sleeve got ripped off in a championship game we had against Logan about two years ago. Ryan likes to wear it because it shows character. It also makes it easy to find him on the field!

Ryan...showing us his war wounds after the Moapa game. He gets so cut up and bruised up. He and his dad think it's awesome. I'm not so sure.

Colten and his new companion, Elder Mendez

Robbed at Gunpoint

Our e-mail from Colten this week was quite interesting. He informed us that he got robbed. When I read that, my heart sunk...but at least it wasn't as bad as it sounded at first. He thinks it's awesome. He loves Juarez, and he loves that he'll have some stories to tell later. I on the other hand, as his mom, hate that he's in a rough place. This is what he wrote...

"Fam,
I just deleted for the second time my email. Now i only have 12 minutes. Jeeze.
This past week we baptized Isabel Sanchez de la Torre. She's great, I love her.
We have another baptism the following week. We're going to baptize Josephina Cuellar Ortega. SHe's the wife of Federicko who we baptized two weeks ago. They are a great little family.
We've been working a lot lately with Fernando Plumablanca. He works with us, and we give him food. Its a great deal. I really love Ferny. I always ask him, "Ferny, Who loves you?" and he always responds "Elder Butler". This man is so weird though. He has some troubles with the Law of Chastity. Whenever we pass by a young women he starts to groan. So I always say, "Ferny! Whats the Law of Chastity?" He'll always moan a little more and then he'll saw, "Absitence from las muchachas." then i'll say "correcto" and we continue on. He's so weird, but i love him.

I really love Ferny and his family . I believe that the Lord placed us together, because Elder Fregoso and I were forordained to find this family. I'm going to remember them for as long as i live. I love them. They are a great family. The Lord placed us together for a reason. I'm so thankful for them.

This past week when Elder Mendez arrived to Juarez he asked me if i've been robbed. I told him that i have never been robbed, but maybe we'll get robbed this week. And guess what happened, last Friday we got robbed at gunpoint! I so jinxed us. We got robbed by 6 or 7 young men. One of them had a pistol. They took our watches and our ten pesos that we had on us, and we walked off. Then one of them came running back to us and gave us back our things. He asked for our forgiveness and told us that they don't want to rob from "brothers." What a huge waste of time that ended up being. But at least now I can say that i've been robbed by gun point.

Well fam I dont have any more time. I sent you 6 or 7 pictues. I'll write you next week. Remind me to tell you about Raymundo Luna. I had a great spiritual expreince. Please remind me though.

Makenna take your class from Adamson.
Ryan keep my updated of football. and how are the cougs doing?
I love you.
Take my dog on a run. I have a hunch he's fat.

We're going to temple right now. I'm so excited. I fastd yesterday.
Gosh i'm excited.
The church is true and I love you all.
Elder Butler "

Colten got a new companion last week, Elder Mendez. He was glad to be done with Elder Fregoso. He was an allright guy, but Colten was struggling with him to really be obedient - to the letter of the law. (which to Colten, is a huge deal). His new companion has only been out for 5 months.
Colten continues to do great. He's truly loving his mission...and the people that he is meeting there.

Time for Tennis!

For those who don't know...Makenna is our little tennis player. She is on the Hurricane High Varsity Tennis Team. (She's a Sophomore this year) She was in dance for YEARS, but about two years ago she grew tired of it and was ready for a change. So, she took up tennis.
It's fun to watch her...especially when she gets really competitive...with an attitude!
